# Everyday MCP ## Calculator discovery The existing `everyday_calculate` tool also provides calculators for shopping, energy, travel, DIY, cooking, sport, grades, work, finance, statistics, astronomy, codes and colors. Top-level tool count remains fourteen. 1. Call `everyday_calculate` with `request: {action: "catalog", query: "energy"}`. Follow `nextOffset` for more results. 2. Call with `request: {action: "describe", calculator: "home.energy_cost"}` for the exact input schema, example and sources. 3. Call with `request: {action: "calculate", calculator: ID, parameters: {...}}` using those validated fields. Read https://alfie.family/calculators.html or https://alfie.family/api/calculators for discovery. `/api/calculators/ID` describes one calculator. Results contain values, units and assumptions. Money uses decimal strings where specified; rates are supplied, not fetched. Random selection is non-deterministic. No calculation history is stored. > It isn't for humans. It's for agents. Everyday MCP is an anonymous Streamable HTTP server with fourteen practical utility tools. No account or API key is required. ## Connect - [Authoritative installation response](/api/installation): read `http.endpoint` and the generated host configuration. The endpoint can use a different origin from this website. A loopback URL is a local preview. - [Runtime tool catalog](/api/catalog): current names, descriptions, input/output JSON Schemas, annotations, operations, and limits. - [Agent guide with valid requests](/agent-guide.html): connection sequence, six examples, boundaries, and sources. - After connection, use MCP `tools/list`. Runtime discovery is authoritative. ## Resource guides - [MCP tools for personal agents](/resources/guides/mcp-tools-personal-agents): choose a task, check remote MCP support, connect, and verify a known-answer request. - [Recipe scaling and checked grocery lists](/resources/guides/recipe-scaling-shopping-list): scale exact quantities, merge compatible units, and review the source items. - [All Everyday MCP resources](/resources): the current resource index. ## Protocol Service version: 0.2.0. Core target: MCP 2026-07-28 through the official TypeScript SDK, with a legacy path for 2025-series clients. Actual compatibility is determined by the negotiated handshake. The experimental `timer.fired` event can use poll or push when advertised. Delivery does not guarantee host wake-up or user notification. ## Tools - `everyday_calculate`: exact recipe scaling, compatible shopping-unit merging, and itemized bill splits. - `timer`: create, inspect, or cancel an anonymous temporary timer with a secret capability. - `time`: world time, IANA-zone conversion, and explicit seconds/milliseconds epoch conversion. - `calendar`: Gregorian months, optional lunar details, holiday discovery/query, and bounded ICS generation/parsing. - `date`: date arithmetic, business days, ISO weeks, and multi-zone meeting intersections. - `unit_convert`: length, mass, temperature, area, volume, speed, pressure, energy, power, and data size. - `text_analyze`: Unicode counts, ordered differences, list comparison, bounded regex, and keyword scans. - `text_transform`: Unicode/line operations, URL cleanup, Markdown/HTML text, and SRT/WebVTT operations. - `text_extract`: supplied email, URL, phone, HTML, sitemap, and URL-component extraction without fetching. - `text_generate`: bounded random strings, number sequences, UUIDs, and deterministic placeholder text. - `text_codec`: Morse, NATO spelling, Base64/Base32, URL/HTML/Unicode/byte encodings, gzip, and ROT13. - `data_convert`: JSON, NDJSON, CSV, TSV, YAML, XML, JSON Pointer, flattening, and table selection/sorting. - `text_hash`: SHA-2 and explicitly labeled legacy checksums. - `ask_for`: submit anonymous feedback, feature requests, or bug reports to maintainers when requested by the user; receive a receipt ID. ## Boundaries Remote calls process input on the server. Stateless tools do not create a personal history. `ask_for` submissions are stored for maintainer review until removed; no public list, account, email delivery, or reply tracking is provided. Timers require their returned capability for later access; lost capabilities cannot be recovered, and terminal records expire after 24 hours. Current HTTP limits include a 1 MiB request body, 120 requests per minute per observed network peer IP, and four concurrent MCP requests per observed peer. A configured trusted proxy supplies the peer IP, so shared network addresses can aggregate several end users. Each live Input Schema defines tighter operation limits. Preserve service errors. Holiday data uses `date-holidays` 3.37.0 and remains subject to dataset coverage and legal changes. China results do not represent annual adjusted working-day schedules. Hashes are not encryption. Calculation tools do not make payments. Calendar tools do not write personal calendars. Extraction tools do not fetch URLs. ## References - [MCP 2026-07-28](https://modelcontextprotocol.io/specification/2026-07-28) - [Experimental Events proposal](https://github.com/modelcontextprotocol/experimental-ext-triggers-events/blob/main/docs/design-sketch-proposal.md) - [Holiday data source](https://github.com/commenthol/date-holidays) - [Holiday data license](https://github.com/commenthol/date-holidays/blob/master/LICENSE) This file is supplementary documentation, not an MCP installation protocol.
